My advice to fellow Polycounter
You have a great start to your model but you need to work on the proportions if you want it to look similar to the concept art. The suit looks half organic and half metal, there are curves inside of the metal that would not be there. When translating concept art to 3D, you would usually try to separate what looks cool and what is actually functional.
Not adding the cuts in the joints just makes the suit look like a toy. I really do like where you are at with the suit though and it has come a long way since your start, however you still have somethings to fix.
You have this awesome detail on the edges of the legs but no where else. You should put that type of detail everywhere on the suit and then add some light scratches in the spec map. Have fun with all your maps, you will see nothing but great results. Adding a lightmap for the blue lights around the suit would add some nice detail to your characters texture.
good work, looking forward to seeing more.

Weekly Post 10/22/12
Hello everyone, I know I don't Blog much. It shows that I am not working on anything, however I am constantly busy with the new stuff I am working on. I am going to make myself post weekly blogs, to keep my self busy and the work flowing. I do work 60 hours a week but I am not going to use that as an excuse.
This new piece was for the weekly 3D horse challenge(something I do with my friends on facebook). The weekly challenge is something a friend I graduated with created on facebook. This weeks challenge was to make an environment asset in the TF 2 style. I chose to make a texture on grid first with asset pieces then build from the texture (something I have learn from the tutorials I have been watching). I am going to work on some corrections to make this a strong piece. I have been learning new techniques from tutorials made by some of the industries best artists. And the result of this piece showed what I have learned so far.

So this challenge was completely awesome. I really enjoyed doing this one. I still have to clean up so issues with my normal maps but I am satisfied so far. I was cleaning up my desktop and accidentally deleted my Ztools so I guess i can't re-bake my normals or bake an ambient occlusion, sigh. My weapon is dual sword gauntlets made from Rathian and Ratholos. When sheathed they re-track up the arms, going past he elbows. Unsheathed, it re-tracks down becoming 2 swords. The engravings on each sword say "female fire dragon" and "fire dragon." My plan is to take these even further after I do a complete more projects.

Not done yet................
I know I can't be the only who does 2 things at once. Here are the pieces I plan on finishing up after I finish the Gothic Church. I also have a floating city environment in the works but I am not ready to post that yet. The first is Hellboy's Revolver, I started this piece a while ago just to work on my speed. I recently begin reworking, it so I can get it ready for so good high poly work. I think its ready to go.
Second is something I created out of pure random. After watching the Addams Family on Netflix, I decide to create my favorite character, Thing, However, I wanted to add something more to him than just a hand with a wrist. So, I am making a steampunk Thing. The wrist has an eyeball which detach from the hand and have its own personality. I thought it would be great to actually add something a little more unique to Thing.
Third, would be my hard working internship work but, I am not going to post any images from it because I was asked not to. Even If i can I would not, I am loyal to my internships and follow the rules that follow. These people are teaching me and giving me the experience I need to make out there in the game industry. I am not going to betray that trust. however, the pieces came out pretty dope.
Man.... I have a lot to post today so here I go. First up is the Gothic Church progress. Originally, it was suppose to be done already but my internship work had to come first. Here is the progress so far. Its in the unreal editor for gears of war. Which means, ITS ALMOST DONE!!!
As you can see its still in the early stages of development but I am happy with the progress. I originally made custom collision for each of my models but I decided to not use them. Using collision on certain objects causes complications. I decided to make a blocking volume for most things, so it can run smoother.
I am really digging how the banister's came out. I am excited to to begin adding the coffins, they came out cool too. Can't wait to Z brush both pieces.

I was unable to crank out any work this week for my environment. I had to spend my time on my internship work. However, my teacher posted up a site I have not seen before. Here it is:

I will be trying my best to finish up my level by next week so, I can move on to my next project.

My new project
For past few months I have been working hard trying to get ahead at my internship. However, now that I have down time I decided to created several pieces, focused at different game companies. First piece is going to be a Gothic Church I wanted to do for my portfolio class. This environment is going to aimed towards Epic's Gears of War, it's going to be a team death match map. It will be running in the Gears of War editor (Unreal 3 engine). Here is what I started.
